FreeRoot Proot Installer

A shell installer that drops a Debian or Ubuntu userspace onto machines where you do not have root, using PRoot instead of containers or virtual machines.

x86_64 aarch64 armhf Ubuntu / Debian MIT License

What it does

FreeRoot wraps PRoot and BusyBox so you can bootstrap a familiar Linux rootfs, then keep running commands inside it. Typical uses: CI sandboxes, restricted hosts, Binder notebooks, and throwaway distro environments.

Prerequisites

  • Bash shell
  • Network access for the first bootstrap
  • wget (BusyBox ships a fallback)
  • CPU: amd64, arm64, or armhf

Install

git clone https://github.com/Mytai20100/freeroot.git
cd freeroot
./noninteractive.sh

Mini crontab helper

The bundled run command stores startup jobs.

run add curl neofetch.sh | bash
run rm curl neofetch.sh | bash
run list

Notes

This page is a project overview. The installer itself is a shell + PRoot toolchain, not a hosted VPS. Runtime isolation follows PRoot, not a kernel hypervisor.
